Trichinella Testing
The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) has published revised guidance for trichinella testing of UK feral wild boar.
The revision makes the process of sampling for trichinella clearer, with additional graphics and images on how the sampling should be carried out and the various steps involved in getting a kit, sending your sample to the APHA National Reference Laboratory (NRL) and receiving results.
It also includes up to date contact details for the APHA NRL and instructions on how to contact them for the correct submission form to accompany your sample, replacing the old form which should no longer be used.
You can access the new guidance here on the FSS website.
Please forward this to anyone you think may need to know to ensure that anyone who hunts feral wild boar is aware of the process for sampling and testing carcasses for trichinella.
