Snares - Scotland
In answer to a recent Scottish parliamentary question, the Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity, Jim Fairlie, stated that subject to parliamentary procedure, the commencement date of the legislation banning the use of snares in Scotland will be 25 November 2024.
All snares in use should be lifted before this date. It is unlikely there will be any obstruction to the commencement of the legislation, and after that, it will be illegal to set a snare in Scotland. Notwithstanding any personal or organisational views on the use of snares, it has been the will of the Scottish Parliament to generally not listen to the well-founded views of wildlife and land managers and pass this legislation.
